Evaluation Question 5

For Evaluation question 5 we decided on interviewing two people asking those questions about our main production opening sequence. The two people we interviewed took part in the questionnaires; also they are similar ages to our target audience.
From both of the interviews our opening sequence received positive feedback as they were interested and eager to watch the rest 2 hours of the film. We engaged our audience through many techniques within our opening sequence:

  •    Throughout the whole opening sequence we have shown different shots from two different locations which creates enigma to the audience. As our opening sequence does not conclude to why the protagonist is running away and why she is in the mental ward and forest. This creates the audience to be anxious and feel annoyed to what is going to happen and therefore want to continue watching.

  •    As the protagonist face is not shown at all in the opening sequence creates the audience to be eager to find out how she would look. As we have written in our BBFC the character is similar age to the audience and the audience themselves can imagine how they would feel if they were the character with physiological problems.

Costume By

For the second costume shown in the opening sequence we decided to ask Jessica if we could borrow her shorts that she use to wear in gymnastics. this helped us a lot as it meant that we did not need to buy something that we would never use again. she also helped us with ideas for the rest of the costumes.

I created this, as it is all black and grey, being dark colour this is bound to get across the point the next clips are not going to be happy and joyful. The name 'Unknown' also again out the horror point across.

Answers to horror questionnaire

These were the answers to the questionnaire that I made on horror film opening sequences. This will help me and my group due to the fact that we know what people our age will want/like to see in horror opening sequences, we will be able to think of ways to engage with our audience now with the information gathered from peers. The reason I i have ask 16/17 year olds to answer my questionnaire is because the audience that we want our production to reach out to, so i asked some friends in my year.

Horror Ideas

Institution and production name

To start with the production name was simply "TNG_". However, when i was talking to another member of AS, Media studies, it seemed that it wasn't a great idea, as it was a bit boring and not very thought full, as it was only the first letters of our names put together. We decided that it needed to be linked to horror in some sort of way. To do this we mind mapped in my book. We all came up with ideas, some of my favourite ones were, 'Luna', 'Unknown' and 'The Dose. Nenna and Thabssoom's ideas were also great, such as; 'Forest', 'Fear' and 'Insanity'. We voted and decided that we would go for 'Unknown' because 'Luna' sounded too pretty. Also the other ones were good but 'Unknown' created enigma. We then decided that 'The dose' was really good and would be great as our productions name, due to the fact that it will be on a mental person, who would need to have medicine dosages.

Preliminary Task Plan

We started planning our preliminary task. In my group, we had done a brain storm of ideas for what we wanted to do to complete this task. We decided to go for the idea of suspicion and counselling, so there would be a bit of an interrogation, but it wouldn’t be too strict. It would be between a teacher and a student. An incident would have happened in school and the teacher was trying to find out what has happened and why they are acting how they are. We set time in lesson to film the task. We ask our teacher to use some old folders he had as that was out only props needed, to give the feel across that the other character was a teacher.
